Leila started playing the violin at the age of three primarily using the Suzuki method. She began formal lessons at age five and at 13, her family moved to Philadelphia so Leila could attend the Curtis Institute of Music. She completed her studies for a bachelor degree in music the same year she received her high school diploma. During her adolescence, Josefowicz played with symphony orchestras across the globe including those of Philadelphia, Cleveland, Los Angeles, Houston, Chicago, Boston, Montreal and Toronto. In 1994, at age 17, she made her debut in Carnegie Hall performing the Tchaikovsky Concerto.
