Cellist Jullian Lloyd Weber by Ellen

Full Name: Julian Lloyd Webber

Born: April 14, 1951 - probably in England

Genre: He plays mostly classical and contemporary music

Instrument: the ‘Barjansky’ Stradivarius cello of c.1690.

Biography: Julian Lloyd Webber was born on April 14, 1951, and is the second son of William the composer William Lloyd Webber (the composer Andrew Lloyd Webber is his older Brother). At age sixteen he won a scholarship to the Royal College of Music which he attended until completing his studies with the French cellist Pierre Fournier in Geneva in 1973. During January of 1972, Julian made his professional debut playing Sir Arthur Bliss’s Cello Concerto at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London. Since then he has worked with many notable artists; including, Yehudi Menuhin, Lorin Maazel, Esa-Pekka Salonen and Georg Solti to Elton John and Stephanie Grappelli. He has a son named David who was born in 1992, and was the result of a marriage with Zahra Mahmud Ghazi, a member of the Afghan royal family. He is currently married to the cellist Jiaxin Cheng, and a biography called Married to Music, which was written by Margaret Campbell in 2001.

Summary: He is a world renowned solo cellist, and president of the Elgar society.
