Cellist Matt Haimovitz by Chris

BIO:

Born December 3rd, 1970, in Bat Yam israel.plays a cello made by Matteo Gofriller in 1710. Graduated from harvard in 1996. Performed Bach suites in night clubs and restuarants. 1999 to 2004, Haimovitz was a faculty member at the University of Massachusetts.Since 2004, he has taught at the Schulich School of Music of Mcgill University.

BIO:

Started to play cello at 7, with Irene Sharp. AT 9 years he switched teachers to Gabor Reito. Itzhak Perlman introduced him to Leonard Rose, In order to study with Leonard his family had to move to New York in 1983. Rose described Haimovitz as "probably the greatest talent I have ever taught". February 1985, Haimovitz joined the Israel Philharmonic orchestra in a concert that was broadcasted. was followed in 1986 by an American tour with Mehta and the Israel Philharmonic. He was given an Avery fish career grant, for musical achievements. He was the youngest musician to recieve this. In 1987 he signed a contract with Deutsche Grammophon Gesellschaft. He is married to Luna Pearl Woolf.
